SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 095.23 to help stakeholders understand the impact of the decision to postpone the enforcement of the Radio Equipment Directive (RED) delegated act for cybersecurity until 2025.
The European Commission (EC) originally planned to enforce the delegated act from August 2024. However, delays in the preparation of harmonized standards have meant the EC has now taken the decision to enforce the RED delegated act from August 1, 2025.
The RED delegated act introduces new legal requirements for developers of wireless devices and products at risk from cyber-attack. These include:
– Internet capable devices – e.g., smartphones, tablets and electronic cameras, as well as telecommunication equipment and IoT devices
– Toys and childcare equipment, including baby monitors
– Wearable devices – smartwatches, fitness trackers, etc.
SGS has published SafeGuardS 095.23 to help stakeholders navigate the requirements of the RED delegated act. It includes details of the scope of the act, applicable standards, legislative requirements and conformity assessment procedures. The SafeGuardS also explains how SGS can support manufacturers and developers with a total solution for all electrical and electronic devices.
Stakeholders are advised to review SGS’s original SafeGuardS 095.23 for more information.
