SGS Summarizes New EU Restrictions on PFHxS and PFHxS-related Compounds

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published a SafeGuardS covering European Union (EU) restrictions on perfluorohexane sulfonic acid (PFHxS), its salts and related compounds.

Regulation (EU) 2023/1608 was released on August 8, 2023. This amends Part A of Annex I to Regulation (EU) 2019/1021 on persistent organic pollutants (POP Recast Regulation) by adding:
– PFHxS, including any of its branched isomers
– Its salts
– PFHxS-related compounds, which are substances that degrade to PFHxS, including substances that contain the chemical moiety C6F13S- as one of its structural elements

SGS has published SafeGuardS 101.23 to provide stakeholders with an overview of the new regulation. It includes a table containing details of the scope of the restrictions as well as the requirements.

Stakeholders are advised to review SGS’s original SafeGuardS 101.23 to learn more.
