SGS summarizes new European standard for candle accessories

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 124.23 to help manufacturers of candle accessories understand the new European standard for fire safety – EN 17885.

Published at the end of August 2023, EN 17885 covers a variety of candle accessories, including:
– Candle holders
– Candle burners
– Lanterns
– Food warmers
– Oil burners
– Candle rings
– Shades and toppers

It states these products must conform to defined safety requirements and suitable information must be provided to the consumer to ensure a reasonable degree of safety when used.  

SGS has published SafeGuardS 0124.23 to help stakeholders understand the provisions in EN 17885. In addition to details of the safety requirements in the standard, it also includes details of the labeling requirements.
