SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 184.24, summarizing the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s December 2024 announcement of revisions to FZ/T 62017-2024, the country’s standard for toweling gowns.
With a scope applicable to woven toweling garments primarily made of textile fibers, including gowns, bath dresses and shower caps, the mandatory safety requirements of the updated standard align with the GB 18401 rules. The revisions also apply to toweling gowns for infants and children as per GB 31701. Test criteria include fiber content, breaking force, seam strength, colorfastness to washing with soap or soap and soda, colorfastness to rubbing and chlorine, dimensional change after washing, absorbency properties, fiber shedding and water extraction material within the towel.
SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to inform stakeholders about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 184.24 outlines the main technical changes compared with the previous version, FZ/T 62017-2009, including additions and revisions. FZ/T 62017-2024 will come into effect on July 1, 2026.
Stakeholders are encouraged to refer to the original SafeGuardS 184.24 for more details.
