Switzerland Amends Authorized Substance List for Food Contact Materials

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 185.24, summarizing changes to Switzerland’s positive list for food contact plastics and packaging inks.

Effective from January 1, 2025, Official Collection 2024 755 (RO 2024 755) updates two annexes in Switzerland’s Ordinance on Materials and Articles Intended to Come into Contact with Foodstuffs (RS/SR 817.023.21).

The two annexes are:
– Annex 2 ‘List of permitted substances for the manufacture of plastic materials and articles and related requirements’ (Edition 3.2)
– Annex 10 ‘List of permitted substances for the manufacture of packaging inks and related requirements’ (Edition 3.2)

SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 185.24 includes two helpful tables comparing the new revisions with the Edition 3.1 versions, as well as a list of the Chemical Abstract Service (CAS) substances detailed in the changes.

Stakeholders are encouraged to refer to the original SafeGuardS 185.24 for more information.
