Geneva (July 30, 2025) – SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 106.25, focusing on Resolution (RDC) No. 979 of the Collegiate Board of Directors, from Brazil’s Health Regulatory Authority (Agência Nacional de Vigilância Sanitária, Anvisa). This amends the country’s law of food contact cellulosic material and articles.
Cellulosic materials are plant-based substances, often paper, cardboard or cellophane, used in packaging or preparation applications designed to come into contact with food.
RDC 979/2025 was issued on June 6, 2025, and revises the previous RDC No. 88/2016. It also transposes Mercosur/GMC/Res. 02/2025 into Brazilian law, revising the text regarding the requirements for the chemical compound diisopropylnaphthalene (DIPN).
RDC No. 979/2025 becomes effective on June 10, 2025, the day of its publication in the Official Journal of the Union ((Diário Oficial da União).
SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 106.25 includes further information on the specific language used in the transposition of Mercosur/GMC/Res. 02/2025.
Stakeholders are encouraged to refer to the original SafeGuardS 106.25 for more details.
