Geneva (September 3, 2025) – SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 124.25, reporting on Bangladesh’s proposed draft law on food contact materials (FCM) and articles, which has been reported to the World Trade Organization (WTO).
The proposal from the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) revising the requirements for FCMs and articles under section 87 of the country’s Food Safety Act 2013 (Act No. 43 of 2013) was announced by the WTO on August 13, 2025.
If accepted, according to the WTO and the draft regulation, the law is intended to apply from mid-2026, repealing the current Food Safety (Food Contact Material) Regulation, 2019.
