Switzerland Updates Chemical Ordinance to Further Align with EU Requirements

Geneva (September 9, 2025) – SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 129.25, detailing Switzerland’s latest updates to the Ordinance on Protection against dangerous substances and preparations (Chemicals Ordinance, ChemO).

On August 14, 2925, Switzerland issued Official Collection 2025 506 (RO 2025 506) to amend two annexes under ChemO:
Annex 2 – to align technical requirements with recent amendments to the EU Classification, Labeling and Packaging (CLP) Regulation
Annex 3 – adding seven new substances of very high concern (SVHCs) and updating one entry, expanding the Candidate List from 240 to 247

The new SVHCs impact a wide range of applications, from toys, flooring and food contact materials to lubricants, coatings and cosmetics. Suppliers of articles containing SVHCs above 0.1% must provide sufficient information to ensure safe use, while manufacturers remain responsible for supplying safety data sheets.

Transitional provisions allow the supply of substances not meeting ATP-22 to CLP until April 30, 2026, and ATP-23 until January 31, 2027. RO 2025 506 entered into force on September 1, 2025.

SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to inform stakeholders of regulatory changes. SafeGuardS 129.25 provides full details of the amendment and includes a helpful table detailing the seven SVHCs added to Annex 3 of ChemO.

Stakeholders are encouraged to review SGS’s original SafeGuardS 129.25 for more details.
