Morocco Updates its Verification of Conformity Program – Introduces Mandatory Certification for Clothing Fabric Imports

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, provides an extended Verification of Conformity service for the Kingdom of Morocco in response to an updated list of products destined for the Kingdom which are subject to control abroad.

In March 2022 Morocco’s Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIC) added clothing fabrics to its Verification of Conformity (VoC) program and the list of products which are subject to control at origin. As a result, before they can be imported all clothing fabrics must now meet the requirements of the NM 09.0.000:2018 Standard and obtain a Certificate of Conformity (CoC). The CoC must be presented upon arrival of the goods and is required for customs clearance.

Appointed by the MIC, SGS implements the VoC program for all listed industrial products. The product conformity assessment service verifies that products comply with the applicable local standards and/or technical regulations in force and issues a CoC as proof of satisfactory results.

Launched in 2020, Morocco’s VoC program requires that industrial products imported to the Kingdom of Morocco demonstrate compliance with the country’s national regulations for product quality and safety, to protect consumers from substandard goods. Depending on the products, the verification shall take place either at the country of export, before shipment of the goods, or at destination, upon arrival of the cargo.
