SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has launched an expanded new mattress testing service at its testing facility in Farmingdale, New York.
The 15,000 square foot physical and fire testing facility has undergone a major upgrade with the installation of new physical testing equipment that now provides a ‘one stop shop’ to manufacturers and retailers seeking a complete mattress testing service.
Now fully operational, the equipment broadens the lab’s scope to include Cornell (firmness retention and surface deformation) testing. This covers the following standards for US and EU:
- Mechanical: ASTM F 1566-14 (2021)
- Mechanical: BS EN 1957-2012
- Flammability: ASTM F1550-16
- Flammability: BFD IX-11
- Flammability: 16 CFR Part 1632 and Part 1633
- Flammability: BS 6807:2006
- Flammability: BS EN 597-1,2 2015
The addition of mechanical testing complements the flammability testing capability that previously existed at SGS’s New York testing lab.
Bobby Brown, Director of Operations, SGS said: “We’re proud of the excellent reputation we have established within fire and flammability testing for a host of industries from apparel to aerospace.
“Sleep products have always been a core aspect of our service and we are delighted to expand our testing capability to provide a total solution to the sleep products industry that affects all of our lives. To consumers around the world, we believe it’s only trusted because it’s tested.”
