The Association of Southeast Asian Nations
(ASEAN) has updated its Guidelines on Limits of Contaminants for Cosmetics to Version
3.0.
At the 30th ASEAN Cosmetic
Scientific Body (ACSB), held in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, June 18-19, 2019, it was decided
that a trace impurity limit for 1,4-dioxane should be included in the
Guidelines.
The new limit for 1,4-dioxane will be introduced
in two stages, effective:
- June 19,
2020 – a limit of not more than 25 mg/kg or 25 mg/L (25ppm) - June 19, 2023 – a lower limit of not more than 10mg/kg or 10mg/L (10ppm)
Stakeholders are advised to now check
their cosmetic raw materials to ensure the end product does not contain trace
limits of 1,4-dioxane above the permissible limit.
