SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, is informing stakeholders that Brazil has released proposals to update its legislation for food contact cellulosic materials and articles.
Cellulosic refers to a fiber made from cellulose – a substance found in the walls of plant cells.
Brazil’s Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) has issued a draft resolution. Their intention is to revise the nation’s technical regulation on food contact cellulosic materials and articles in Resolution of the Board of Collegiate of Directors – RDC No. 88, 2016.
According to draft resolution, pigments and dyes in food contact cellulosic materials and articles will be required to conform to the Grade 5 grayscale in BS EN 646 ‘Paper and board intended to come into contact with foodstuffs – Determination of color fastness of dyed paper and board.
The draft resolution was circulated by the World trade Organization (WTO) on January 7, 2022, attached to WTO document no. 22-0190. ANVISA will accept comments until March 7, 2022.
