Canada Amends Composite Wood Products Formaldehyde Emissions Regulation

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 003.25, summarizing changes to regulations on formaldehyde emissions from composite wood products in Canada under the nation’s Environmental Protection Act of 1999.

Effective March 18, 2025, SOR/2024-256 implements changes following a 2023 consultation on amendments to the previous regulations. The revisions aim to repeal accreditation requirements for formaldehyde testing laboratories, update record-keeping requirements for economic operators, minimize international trade barriers, clarify minor requirements, correct technical aspects, and align the English and French versions of the regulatory text.

SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 003.25 includes a helpful table highlighting the changes as amended by SOR/2024-256.

Stakeholders are encouraged to refer to the original SafeGuardS 003.25 for more details.
