SGS,
the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company has published
an overview of the changes brought in with China’s new national product
standard for down filled garments – GB/T 14272-2021.
Included
in China’s No. 3 announcement of approved national standards in 2021, this
standard replaces the 2011 previous iteration and will come into effect on
April 1, 2022.
GB/T
14272-2021 covers garments that are predominantly made from woven fabrics, and
which are filled with down. The standard still applies if small parts, such as fly
facings, pocket flaps, hoods and collars, are not filled with down.
The
standard does not apply to garments that are either:
- Filled
with a down and non-down blend - Made
from layers or zones of down and other fibers respectively

The
standard covers the main physical and chemical performance requirements for
down garments used by adults, children and infants.
A
small selection of the changes brought in by the new standard include:
- Requirements
for infant and children’s down-filled garments to conform to GB 31701 - Requirements
for colorfastness to perspiration, transfer in joints and appearance after
laundering - Test
methods - Revisions
to applicable scope - Requirements
for raw materials, sewing, specification tolerance, ironing appearance, and
physical and chemical performance
