Lead Restriction in Fishing Tackle Proposed by EU

Geneva (October 9, 2025) – SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 145.25 to inform stakeholders of the European Union’s intention to restrict lead in fishing sinkers and lures.

The World Trade Organization (WTO) has circulated a draft regulation that will, if adopted, amend entry 63 of Annex XVII of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 ’Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals’ (REACH).

SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 145.25 includes an overview of the proposed lead restriction for fishing tackle. It includes a helpful table with highlights of the draft regulation, including details of the proposed dates of entry into force.

Businesses involved in the fishing tackle industry are advised to review SGS’s original SafeGuardS 145.25 for more details.
