Stakeholders are reminded that China’s new national product
standard for buoyant swimwear for infants and children came into effect on December
1, 2021.
Issued by the Standardization Administration of China, GB/T
40180-2021 was included in China’s No. 7 announcement on the approved national
standards in 2021. It covers
buoyant swimwear made for children aged 14 years or below and with
shells made from textile materials. The standard can also be referenced in
relation to other wearable buoyancy products – collars, armbands, chest straps,
knapsacks, etc., but it is not suitable for lifejackets and buoyancy aids with
plastic as the main material.
The standard defines buoyant swimwear as wearable clothing that
uses textile fabrics as the main shell, and which is equipped with buoyancy
materials and/or inflatable air chambers that provide floatation during water
sports.
The technical content of the standard relates to four requirements:
- Instructions for use, warnings and markings
- Safety
- Quality – general (formaldehyde content, filling materials, odor, flammability,
etc.) and internal (fiber content, colorfastness, fabric stretch and recover,
etc.) - Appearance
