New York State Enacts Comprehensive Legislation for E-bikes and Lithium-Ion Batteries

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 135.24 to provide stakeholders with an overview of New Yorks State’s new legislation encouraging the safe use of e-bikes and lithium-ion batteries.

Governor Kathy Hochul signed the package of laws on July 11, 2024. The legislation aims to make e-bike and micromobility devices safer and more desirable for New Yorkers and includes provisions focused on educating the population on purchasing choices, storage and use.

SGS publishes SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that may impact their business. SafeGuardS 135.24 contains details of eight pieces of legislation in the package, including information on their scope, provisions and effective dates.

Stakeholders are advised to review SGS’s original SafeGuardS 135.24 for more information.
