Geneva (August 6, 2025) – SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 113.25, detailing the six-month delay to the reporting delay for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in products for the US state of Minnesota.
PFAS, often referred to as ‘forever chemicals’, are being increasingly restricted due to their toxic effects on human, animal and environmental health. Effective January 2025, HF 2310 (Chapter 60, Amara’s Law) prohibited the use of PFAS in 11 product categories in Minnesota, established a PFAS disclosure program for products by January 1, 2026, and set the stage for an eventual complete ban on PFAS in products beginning in 2032.
The six-month extension to the initial reporting deadline was announced by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), moving the deadline from January 1 to July 1, 2026. This is intended to give manufacturers, including importers or first domestic distributors, additional time to establish agreements with suppliers to report on their behalf and to become familiar with the new PFAS Reporting and Information System of Minnesota (PRISM).
SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to inform stakeholders of regulatory changes that may impact their business. SafeGuardS 113.25 includes further details of the extension as well as a helpful timeline of PFAS reporting deadlines.
Stakeholders are encouraged to refer to the original SafeGuardS 113.25 for more details.
