SGS Details New Turkish Regulation for Managing Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 079.23 to help stakeholders understand Turkey’s new regulation for managing waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE).

‘Regulation on the Management of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment’ was published in Official Gazette No. 32055 on December 26, 2022. Issued by the Turkish Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, it seeks to protect the environment in a number of ways, including:

– Promoting the circular economy to prevent of the formation of WEEE
– Reducing the amount of WEEE going to disposal by improving and promoting reuse/recycle through better methods and targets for preparation, recycling and recovering
– Improving WEEE management to ensure the environment and human health are not harmed – zero-waste management system, etc.
– Determining a framework for expanded producer responsibilities (strategies, policies and administrative, legal and technical procedures and principles)

SGS has published SafeGuardS 079.23 to provide stakeholders with a clearer understanding of the impact of Turkey’s new regulation for managing WEEE. It includes a table detailing the highlights of the new regulation.

The new regulation came into effect on February 1, 2023.
