SGS Helps Stakeholders Understand Updates to EU CMR Lists Under REACH

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has issued SafeGuardS 083.23 detailing recent amendments to the list of carcinogenic, mutagenic or reprotoxic category 1A or 1B substances (CMR category 1A or 1B substances) under Annex XVII of the European Union’s REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) regulation.

Regulation (EU) 2023/1132 was published on June 9, 2023. It amends the list of CMR substances in:

– Appendix 1 – Category 1A carcinogenic substances
– Appendix 2 – Category 1B carcinogenic substances
– Appendix 5 – Category 1A reprotoxic
– Appendix 6 – Category 1B reprotoxic

SGS SafeGuardS 083.23 summarizes the revisions in each of the appendices and provides further details on updates in appendices 2 and 6. It also details the requirements for any CMR substances prohibited under Entries 28 to 30 of Annex XVII of REACH.

Regulation (EU) 2023/1132 entered into force on June 29, 2023, and will become applicable on December 1, 2023.
