SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 101.24 to provide key information on the addition of one substance of very high concern (SVHC) to the Candidate List of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).
The ECHA published ECHA/NR/24/19 on June 27, 2024, summarizing the applications of the additional chemical, bis(α,α-dimethylbenzyl) peroxide (EC 201-279-3/CAS 80-43-3). This inclusion places certain requirements on companies operating in the European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA), such as the need to communicate the presence of this substance in articles to consumers within 45 days, when requested.
Notification to the ECHA under REACH applies if the substance meets two conditions:
– The substance is present at above 0.1% in those articles
– The substance is present in those articles in quantities totaling more than one tonne per producer or importer per year
