SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published a SafeGuardS to help stakeholders understand the scope and requirements of the US Consumer Products Safety Commission’s (CPSC) direct final rule for the marking of toy, look-alike and imitation firearms.
Published on May 11, 2023, direct final rule 16 CFR 1271 adopts Department of Commerce rule 15 CFR 272 with non-substantive and conforming changes. If the CPSC does not receive significant adverse comments by June 12, 2023, the rule will come into effect on June 26, 2023. Unless exempted, it will apply to any toy, look-alike or imitation firearm with the appearance, shape and/or configuration of a firearm.
SGS’s SafeGuardS 058.23 looks at the background to the direct final rule and includes a list of exemptions to the rule – including traditional B0B, paintball and pellet-firing air guns. The SafeGuardS also details the new approved markings.
Stakeholders are advised to review SGS’s original SafeGuardS 058.23 to learn more about the direct final rule, its adoption and application.
