SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published an overview of China’s recent ban on the production, use, import and export of five persistent organic pollutants (POP).
The five POP are:
– Decabromodiphenyl ether (DecaBDE)
– Hexachlorobutadiene (HCB)
– Pentachlorophenol, (PCP), its salts and esters
– Polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCN), including dichloro-, trichloro-, tetrachloro-, pentachloro-, hexachloro-, heptachloro- and octachloronaphthalenes
– Short-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCP): straight-chain chlorinated hydrocarbons with a chain length of C10-13, the chlorine content exceeds 48%, and its concentration in the mixture is ³ 1%
SGS published SafeGuardS 100.23 to help stakeholders understand the impact of the ban, which came into effect on June 6, 2023. In addition to details of the prohibition’s introduction, there is also a table containing information on the requirements and exemptions in relation to DecaBDE and SCCP.
For more information, stakeholders are advised to review SGS’s original SafeGuardS 100.23.
