SGS summarizes China’s acceptance testing agency requirements for clothing imports

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published a SafeGuardS to help businesses understand acceptance testing agency requirements for clothing items being imported into China.

Clothing must be tested against mandatory standards GB 18401 and GB 31701 before it can be imported into China. Testing must be conducted by an acceptance testing agency that is either:
– Accredited local laboratory
– ILAC-MRA ISO 17025 accredited non-Chinese laboratory

Reports have a validity of one year and must be uploaded to the China International Trade Single Window platform.

SGS has published SafeGuardS 092.23 to help stakeholders understand the criteria for acceptance testing agencies. It includes details of the requirements for applying to the General Administration of Customs for inclusion in the list of accepted agencies, and the criteria that are applicable to both Chinese and non-Chinese laboratories.

For more information, including details of applicable imported clothing categories for common product types, stakeholders are advised to review SGS’s original SafeGuardS 092.23.

SGS operates a network of four laboratories – Shanghai, Changzhou, Qingdao, and Tianjin – accredited by ILAC-MRA to act acceptance testing agencies for businesses looking to export adult and children’s clothing to China.
