SGS Summarizes Chinese Consultation Over Proposed Standards for Toys and Jewelry

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 034.24 to summarize a consultation being organized by the Standardization Administration of China over mandatory standards for toys and jewlery

The World Trade Organization (WTO) announced the five draft mandatory standards in February 2024. If adopted, they will replace their 2012 or 2014 equivalents.

They are:
– Safety of toys – Part 1: Basic code – GB 6675.1-202x
– Safety of toys – Part 2: Mechanical and physical properties – GB 6675.2-202X (ISO 8124-1:2022 MOD)
– Safety of toys – Part 3: Flammability – GB 6675.3-20xx (ISO 8124-2:2023 MOD)
– Safety of toys – Part 4: Migration of certain elements – GB 6675.4-XXXX (ISO 8124-3:2020+Amd.1:2023 MOD)
– Jewelry – Technical requirement for safety – GB 28480-20XX

The proposed date of entry for the ‘Safety of toys’ standards is 36 months after approval. The jewelry standard will enter into force six months after adoption.

Stakeholders should be aware there are also plans to replace GB 6675.12-2014 for toy scooters.
