SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published a summary of Japan’s consultation on the addition of 138 perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) related compounds as Class 1 Specified Chemical Substances under Cabinet Order No. 244.
PFOAs are used widely in consumer items such as carpeting, upholstery, apparel and textiles, as well as in firefighting foams.
The proposed list of PFOA-related compounds is expected to become effective on January 10, 2025.
SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulations that may impact their business. SafeGuardS 147.24 provides further details of the proposed list of PFOA-related compounds.
Stakeholders are encouraged to refer to the original SafeGuardS 147.24 for more details.
