SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published a summary of the US EPA’s guidance on requirements and responsibilities under the methylene chloride rule, which was published on July 11, 2024.
The guidance document provides a detailed overview of usage categories for the solvent methylene chloride and comes in the wake of the EPA’s April 30, 2024, ban on its use in all consumer products. Workplace protections have also been established through a Workplace Chemical Protection Program (WCPP).
The EPA’s guide is intended to help individuals, businesses and organizations understand their responsibilities under the methylene chloride ban and includes other related information, including FAQs and a factsheet.
SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulations that may impact their business. SafeGuardS 118.24 provides an overview of the EPA’s guidance documents and more information on the specifications of the ban.
Stakeholders are encouraged to refer to the original SafeGuardS 118.24 for full details.
