SGS Summarizes French Durability Index Requirements for Washing Machines and Televisions

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 087.24 to give stakeholders an overview of France’s durability index requirements for washing machine and televisions, which will be applicable from 2025.

France’s new durability index, part of the AGEC law, aims to provide consumers with clear and objective information to enable better purchasing decisions regarding reliability, durability and repairability. It will gradually replace the repairability index that has been in place since 2021.

The durability index is expressed through a score out of ten. This must be clearly visible in stores and online, alongside the price of the product.

SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that may impact their ability to operate. SafeGuardS 087.24 provides a complete overview of the requirements that will come into effect in 2025 relating to the sale of washing machines and televisions in France. It explains what manufacturers must consider in terms of reliability for each product type and details what manufacturers must communicate to consumers.

Stakeholders should be aware the requirements for televisions will come into effect in January 2025 and for washing machines in April 2025. They should now review SGS’s original SafeGuardS 087.24 for more details.
