China’s new mandatory product standard covering the general safety requirements for footwear – GB 25038-2024.
GB 25038-2024 was issued by the State Administration for Market Regulation and the Standardization Administration of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) on May 28, 2024. It is applicable to footwear products made from a variety of materials. However, it is not applicable to:
– Protective shoes (boots)
– Footwear products for children under 14 years of age
The standard replaces and abolishes:
– GB 25038-2010 Rubber Shoes Healthy and Safe Specification
– GB 25037-2010 Industrial Rubber Boots
– GB 21536-2008 Athletic Shoes
SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory and market changes that can impact their ability to do business. SafeGuardS 110.24 provides a useful summary of GB 25038-2024, including details of the revisions, additions and deletions brought in by the new standard. It also includes a table detailing the main technical requirements in the standard, covering item, test method and requirement.
