SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 069.24 to provide stakeholders with details of China’s new mandatory food contact materials standards for adhesives and solvent residues.
47 Chinese national food safety standards were announced by the National Health Commission and State Administration for Market Regulation in March 2024. These included two important standards for food contact materials (FCM) and articles:
1. GB 4806.15-2024 ‘National food safety standard: Adhesives for food contact materials and products’
2. GB 31604.60-2024 ‘National food safety standard: Determination of solvent residues in food contact materials and products’
GB 4806.15-2024 is the nation’s first standard for food contact adhesives. It will come into effect on February 8, 2025.
GB 31604.60-2024 details the methodology for analyzing 25 organic solvents in food contact composite materials and products. It will come into effect on August 8, 2024.
SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that will impact their business. SafeGuardS 069.24 covers the two new Chinese standards for food contact materials and includes a summary of the requirements in GB 31604.60-2024.
Stakeholders are advised to review SGS’s original SafeGuardS 069.24 for more details.
