SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 104.24 summarizing Georgia’s technical regulation on regenerated cellulose film materials and articles intended to come into contact with food.
Resolution No. 124 of April 3, 2024, has been approved by the government of Georgia. Essentially based on the European Union’s Directive 2007/42/EC on food contact regenerated cellulose films, it will become effective on January 1, 2026.
According to Article 2.1 of the resolution, regenerated cellulose film means a thin sheet material derived from refined cellulose that is produced from untreated wood/timber or cotton. It may be coated on one or both sides.
SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 104.24 covers Georgia’s new technical regulation and includes a useful table that provides an overview of the resolution’s key articles:
– Article 2.1: ‘Definition of terms’
– Article 3: ‘Requirements for regenerated cellulose film’
– Article 4: ‘Requirements for substances and group of substances’
– Article 5: ‘Declaration of conformity’
– Appendix: ‘List of substances permitted/authorized for the manufacture of regenerated cellulose film’
Stakeholders should review SGS’s original SafeGuardS 104.24 for further details of the resolution’s articles.
