SGS Summarizes Paint and Varnish VOC Regulation in Georgia

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 103.24, to provide stakeholders with an overview of Georgia’s technical regulation on volatile organic compounds (VOC) in certain paints, varnishes and vehicle refinishing products.

Modeled on European Directive 2004/42/CE (Paints Directive), which amends Directive 1999/13/EC, Georgia’s Resolution No. 127/24, was approved by its government on April 3, 2024.

Resolution No.127/24 sets out the scope and purpose of the technical regulation, defining its terms and requirements regarding VOC content in products, including labeling requirements for products and the parameters of VOC content.

SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that will impact their ability to operate. SafeGuardS 103.24 provides a useful overview, including tables highlighting the details of Resolution No. 127/24.

Stakeholders should be aware this technical regulation will become effective on July 1, 2025.
