SGS Summarizes Swiss Revision to Positive Lists for Food Contact Materials

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 090.24 to provide stakeholders with an overview of Switzerland’s amended positive lists for food contact plastics and food packaging inks.

Official Collection 2024 250 was published on June 5, 2024. This amends two annexes under the nation’s Ordinance on Materials and Articles Intended to Come into Contact with Foodstuffs (RS/SR 817.023.21).

The two annexes are:
– Annex 2 ‘List of substances permitted for the manufacture of plastic materials and articles and related requirements’
– Annex 10 ‘List of substances permitted for the manufacture of packaging inks and requirements’

SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory and market changes that may impact their business. SafeGuardS 090.24 contains details of the amendments to Switzerland’s food contact requirements and includes further information on the changes to Annex 2, which include the introduction of bis(2-ethylhexyl)cyclohexane-1,4-dicarboxylate (DEHCH) and inclusion of diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP) in group substance restriction no. 32.

Stakeholders should review SGS’s original SafeGuardS 090.24 for more details.

The new positive list will come into effect on July 1, 2024.
