SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 024.24 to provide stakeholders with details of the latest list of toy safety standards for presumption of conformity with Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011 (S.I. 2011/1811) in relation to Great Britain (GB – England, Scotland and Wales).
The announcement was made by the United Kingdom (UK) Department for Business and Trade (DBT) in Notice of Publication 0093/23: Designated Standards – Toys Safety (publishing.service.gov.uk).
Stakeholders should be aware that among the updates the toy electrical standard EN 62115 has been amended and now provides a complete list of references for toy safety standards that are designated under S.I. 2011/1881, fully aligning the list of designated standards for GB with EU harmonized toy standards. Some additional voluntary measures have also been suggested for toys with button or coin type batteries.
SGS publishes SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory and market changes that may impact their business. SafeGuardS 024.24 provides an overview of the update and includes a table with the current standards for presumption of conformity. This includes, under the entry for electric toys, an informative note detailing, inter alia, the additional voluntary measures for toys with button or coin type batteries.
Stakeholders are advised to review SGS’s original SafeGuardS 024.24 for more information.
The update became effective on November 22, 2023.
