SGS, the world’s leading inspection, verification,
testing and certification company, is pleased to announce that its testing
laboratory in San
Diego, California, has become the first in North
America to gain Sigfox accreditation for Sigfox RF and protocol testing.
Sigfox, a leading
provider of connectivity for the Internet of Things (IoT), has built a global 0G network to connect billions of “low-energy
devices” to the internet, utilizing device-to-cloud communications to
drastically reduce energy consumption and product costs.
Demand to connect low powered IoT devices to the
Sigfox network, which requires Sigfox Ready™ certification, is rising. SGS in North
America is
now well placed to undertake these tests which cover:
- RF & protocol
tests, to check Sigfox protocol & RF performance compliance - Radiated performance tests, to assess the radiated performances of the device
This approval builds on the laboratory’s existing approval
to test against the Sigfox Verified certification standard. This recognizes
compliance to RF & protocol specifications of Modular Designs – designs
that are not intended to connect directly to the Sigfox network.
These include:
- Modules, which are ready-to-use components, to be soldered to a printed circuit board
- Reference Designs, which are a collection of schematics and Bill of Material documents (including components values and tolerances, PCB layout, PCB stack-up) meant to define
hardware/software design
“Having an accredited laboratory in North America
that offers Sigfox RF & protocol testing is particularly attractive for
module vendors as it allows the candidate end devices to inherit the Sigfox RF
and Protocol conformity from the Sigfox Verified Modular Design,” said Parthiv
Parikh, Global Business Development Manager at SGS.
“This speeds up the device’s certification process, as
only the Sigfox radiated performance tests are then needed at the end-device
level.”
