Switzerland Further Aligns Chemical Risk Reduction Ordinance with EU Standards

Baar (December 19, 2025) – SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 180.25, reporting on Switzerland’s update of several provisions under its Ordinance on the Reduction of Risks Relating to the Use of Certain Particularly Dangerous Substances, Preparations and Articles (ORRChem). The revision brings Swiss regulation further in line with European Union chemical safety standards.

ORRChem serves as a cornerstone of Switzerland’s chemical safety legislation, designed to protect human health and the environment from hazardous substances through targeted restrictions, bans and conditions. It is closely aligned with EU requirements, ensuring regulatory consistency.

On November 21, 2025, Switzerland’s Federal Office for the Environment issued Official Collection 2025 747 (RO 2025 747), updating ORRChem (RS/SR 814.81). Implementation of RO 2025 747 will proceed in phases beginning December 1, 2025.

SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 180.25 includes a useful table with the key changes in RO 2025 747.

Stakeholders are encouraged to refer to the original SafeGuardS 180.25 for more details.
