Toy Safety Standards List Revised for Great Britain

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, is advising stakeholders that the United Kingdom (UK) has revised its list of designated toy safety standards for Great Britain (Wales, Scotland and England).

Notice of Publication 063/22 was published by the UK’s Office for Product Safety and Standards and Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) on September 1, 2022. This revised the list of standards designated as demonstrating conformity with Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011 (S.I. 2011/1811). Following Brexit, the changes only apply to Great Britain and not Northern Ireland.

The notice contains amendments to six standards and a complete list of references to toy safety standards that are designated for S.I. 2011/1881. The six amended standards are EN 71 Parts 2 to 4, 7, 12 and 13.

The complete list of standards is:

  • Mechanical and physical properties – EN 71-1:2014+A1:2018
  • Flammability – EN 71-2:2020
  • Migration of certain elements – EN 71-3:2019+A1:2021
  • Experimental sets for chemistry and related activities – EN 71-4:2020
  • Chemical toys (sets) other than experimental sets – EN 71-5:2015
  • Finger paints – EN 71-7:2014+A3:2020
  • Activity toys for domestic use – EN 71-8:2018
  • N-Nitrosamines and N-nitrosatable substances – EN 71-12:2016
  • Olfactory board games, cosmetic kits and gustative games – EN 71-13:2021
  • Trampolines for domestic use – EN 71-14:2018
  • Electric toys:
  1. EN 62115:2005
  2. EN 62115:2005/A2:2011
  3. EN 62115:2005/A11:2012
  4. EN 62115:2005/A12:2015
  5. EN 62115:2005/A2:2011/AC:2011
  6. EN 62115:2005/A11:2012/AC:2013

With the exception of the standards for electric toys, these standards are consistent with European Union requirements.
