SGS Issues SafeGuardS Detailing Changes to Albanian POP Legislation

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published a SafeGuardS detailing the changes made by Albania with regards to persistent organic pollutants (POP) legislation.

Albania issued Decision No. 691/2022 in October 2022. This amends Decision No. 360/2015, which aligned Albanian requirements with European Union (EU) Regulation (EU) 519/2012 (amending Regulation (EC) 850/2004).

Decision No. 691/2022 brings Albanian regulations into closer alignment with EU Regulation 2019/1021 (POP Recast Regulation).

SGS Connectivity & Products has published SafeGuardS 127.22 to help manufacturers and suppliers of consumer products understand the changes brought about by the revision to Albanian POP regulations.

These include:

– Revisions to certain restriction limits for tetra-, penta-, hexa- and heptabromodiphenyl ethers
– New entries for:
1. Decabromodiphenyl ether (Deca-BDE)
2. Hexabromocyclododecane (HBCDD) and its main diastereoisomers
3. Pentachlorophenol its salts and esters
4. Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), its salts and PFOA-related compounds
5. Dicofol

SafeGuardS 127.22 contains more details on these and other changes, including a table that summarizes the new limits for these substances.

Stakeholders have until December 1, 2022, to ensure their products conform to the provisions in Decision No. 691/2022.
