Toy Safety Standards List Updated in Moldova

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, is advising stakeholders that Moldova has made several changes to its list of standards that demonstrate conformity with the nation’s toy safety regulation.

Moldova’s Ministry of Economy issued Order No. 92 of September 27, 2022 (Order 92/2022), on October 7, 2022. This repeals Order No. 39/2021 and contains an approved list of Moldovan standards that adopt harmonized European Union (EU) standards for presumption of conformity with the nation’s Technical Regulation on Toy Safety.

It transposes EU Implementing Decision 2021/1992 and contains seven changes when compared to the previous iteration:

  1. SM EN 71-2:2021 for flammability
  2. SM EN 71-3+A1:2021 for migration of certain elements
  3. SM EN 71-4:2021 for experimental sets for chemistry and related activities
  4. SM EN 71-7:2014+A3:2020 for finger paints
  5. SM EN 71-12:2017 for N-nitrosamines and N-nitrosatable substances
  6. SM EN 71-13:2021 for olfactory board games, cosmetic kits and gustative games
  7. SM EN IEC 62115:2020 and SM EN IEC 62115:2020/A11:2020 for electric toys

SGS has published SafeGuardS 125.22, which contains further details on the changes introduced by the Moldovan Ministry of Economy, including a helpful summary of the standards that have been introduced and replaced under Order No. 92 of September 27, 2022.

The new order came into effect on October 7, 2022.  Toy manufacturers and suppliers operating in Moldova should now ensure their products conform to the latest regulations.
